Businesses & Venues

Offices, businesses, or venues can turn drink containers into a revenue stream. Your business can cut down on waste or support a cause – all with collecting containers.

Do you manage a hospitality business?

Your rubbish is worth money! Collecting eligible drink containers will help your business. You can reduce waste costs, while helping the planet. Pubs and clubs found less frequent waste collection. And their customers their drink containers are going to the right place.

Venue spotlight: Zoos Victoria

Zoos Victoria has millions of visitors each year. So managing drink containers needs to be simple and practical.

Each zoo has taken a different approach, with collection points, signs and bins set up to suit the way visitors move through the site. Clear signage helps visitors know where to place their containers and how each 10c refund can support conservation.

Since using CDS Vic, Zoos Victoria has reduced its mixed recycling collections from three times a week to two. They have also raised more than $6,000 in container refunds in the first six months.

Their advice for other venues: start small, see what works, and build from there.

Fundraising FAQs

How can community groups, charities or not-for-profits get involved?

Our scheme gives charities, schools, community groups, environmental groups, sporting clubs and educational organisations new ways to raise funds, including:
• seeking donations of eligible drink containers from their community that can be redeemed for a refund
• applying to become a donation partner to receive donations from your supporters and the community

Donation partners are not-for-profit organisations such as a charity, school, sports club or community group. To be part of the scheme, they must be approved by VicReturn, and set up a payment account with one or more of the zone operators. Anyone can choose to donate their drink container refunds to these organisations.

At refund points, your supporters will be able to choose to donate their refund to your organisation. Check with your zone operator/s to understand the different ways your supporters can get behind your cause, including via the apps and by sharing your donation partner ID.

You can also collect empty containers from your supporters and partner with your local refund point to accept the donation.

Infrastructure, such as cages and bins, and the collection of containers may be available to organisations by your local zone operator or refund point.

Contact your zone operator, or your closest depot, to see if they offer these services. Please note, there may be fees involved.
