The prestigious award ceremony, held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, honoured the athletes, coaches, volunteers, administrators and clubs who make an outstanding contribution to sport and active recreation in our state.
The Ocean Racing Club of Victoria earned their award for their efforts in promoting sailing to new audiences. Through live race tracking, race reports and engaging human-interest storytelling on social media, their content captures what makes ocean racing special.
VicReturn Chief of Communications, Marketing and Engagement, Marianne Doyle, announced the winner and presented the award to the club’s Media Manager, Melissa Warren. Melissa said the racing club’s social media presence has not only elevated awareness of the sport of sailing, but has also attracted more women and young people under 25 to become members.
A huge congratulations to Melissa and the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria, and a well-deserved shout-out to all the other finalists of the Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme Outstanding Media Coverage of Sport Award: Swimming Victoria’s Age Short Course Championships, Victorian Institute of Sport’s ‘The Moment’ Series, and Leah Keh of the Victorian International Optimist Dinghy Association.
