In our view, a corgi getting a ride in the front compartment of an electric bike is pretty adorable. If that short-legged dog is sharing her space with a bunch of eligible containers about to be returned, well, that’s even better.
Mich Jing lives in North Melbourne with her corgi, Colbie, and loves her electric bike. Living so close to the city, she doesn’t need a car, but the little boost going up hills is very much appreciated.
As is Colbie’s assistance with Mich’s container returns. Sometimes she’s even got other canine friends with her.
“We go to the RVM in Royal Park. I usually take Colbie up there for a walk in the mornings so we go straight after,” Mich says. “It’s pretty convenient.”
“I save the refunds in Colbie’s bank account. Last year she had to have a pretty big surgery. It cost thousands and I thought, I need to get some savings for her.”
At 17 kilograms, Colbie would be reasonably hefty cargo on a push bike. In the front of an e-bike, accompanied by a bag of containers, she’s no trouble at all. Making CDS Vic returns is an easy, enjoyable part of Mich’s day.
“It’s just how I get around. I do use public transport too, but the e-bike is so good,” Mich says, adding she got her first one, a rental, after Colbie’s surgery when she couldn’t go on her usual walks.
Now Colbie is back on her paws, and she’s helping Mich save up for any future corgi-related expenses. Mich mostly just returns her own containers, but a few neighbours have started saving theirs too.
For those who haven’t yet got started, Mich says it’s all about the refund points. She’s proof you don’t need a car to take part.
“Just think about [where you’ll go] ahead of time and make it part of your day,” she says. “People think it’s all a bit too hard but if you work it into your routine, it becomes easy.”
Too right. And even easier if you’ve got a beautiful four-legged assistant.
