Eligible Containers

Search below to check if your drink container can be returned for a 10-cent refund.

WHAT’S ELIGIBLE

Most drink containers made from aluminium, glass, plastic and carton between 150mL and 3 litres are eligible.

You can keep the lids on, we recycle them too.

Fruit and vegetable juices

Pure: Most bottles, cans, and cartons from 150ml to under 1 litre

Non-pure: Most bottles, cans, and cartons from 150ml to 3 litres

Beer and cider

Most bottles, cans, and cartons from 150ml and up to 3 litres

Flavoured milk and coffee

Most bottles, cans, and cartons from 150ml and under 1 litre

Carbonated water, soft drinks and energy drinks

Most bottles and cans from 150ml and to 3 litres

Water

Most bottles from 150ml to 3 litres

Non-carbonated soft drinks and sports drinks

Most bottles and cans from from 150ml to 3 litres

Can containers be crushed?

You shouldn’t crush your containers, as most refund points can’t accept them.

Yes, lids are recycled too. They will become part of the circular economy too and will be made into new products.

Containers need to be empty, but you don’t need to rinse them. They will be washed as part of the recycling process.

WHAT’S NOT ELIGIBLE

Containers under 150mL or over 3 litres aren’t eligible for the scheme. Many of these can still be recycled in your kerbside bin.

Plain milk

Plain milk containers of all sizes, including plant-based milk substitutes

Cordial or syrup containers

Concentrated or undiluted cordial or syrup containers.

Wine and spirits

Wine or pure spirits bottles made of glass, including single serve formats

Some large containers including juice and flavoured milk

Containers 1 litre or greater that contain flavoured milk, pure fruit or vegetable juice.

Registered health tonics

Including those registered in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods.
